IsarMUN 2008

This was IsarMUN 2008. A gallery of pictures will guide you through the latest IsarMUN experience!

The Isar Model United Nations (IsarMUN) 2009 is a joint cooperation conference organized by students enrolled in Munich’s universities. IsarMUN 2009 offers an exciting annual conference, bringing together highly qualified and politically interested students from universities around the world. During IsarMUN's past editions, delegates have experienced diverse and controversial committees, thought provoking debates and the teamwork of motivated students of diverse backgrounds. A highly motivated group of students is currently working hard to make IsarMUN 2009 a challenging and enriching experience.

The IsarMUN 2009 is a great opportunity to experience the work and the working procedures of the committees of the United Nations. Its aim is to simulate the debates and discussions that take place in the different councils of the UN and create fictional, yet highly realistic scenarios, wherein the participants play the role of the diplomats of modern times. IsarMUN tries to create a realistic frame for our participants so that delegates can find themselves in complex situations where they have to negotiate for world peace and security. Delegates at IsarMUN then are enabled to enrich their rhetoric skills, their ability to negotiate, and to understand better foreign cultures by putting themselves into the shoes of a foreign country’s representative. In addition, one of the goals of the conference is to allow our delegates to really grasp what being a diplomat involves and truly take upon the leadership of what they are representing.

Outside committee discussions, IsarMUN offers inspiring lectures held by experts of the discussed issues. Our key-note speakers will open and close our conference with stimulating speeches. This will be an excellent opportunity to interact with those currently involved in the world of international relations and get first-hand insights of their experiences. Also, this year will again have workshops on the Rules of Procedure which allows new participants to fully engage with the IsarMUN experience. A good preparation further involves solid background knowledge on the issues being discussed

Rules of Procedure
Each committee at IsarMUN 2009 will have an agenda composed of two committee topics. Delegates normally spend their first session debating which of the topics should be discussed first. Following this discussion, the agenda will be set. After a topic resolution is passed, the committee will then discuss the next topic in accordance to how the agenda was set. It is often the case that a committee will deal with a single topic throughout all days of the conference, therefore it is very important to chose and defend the preferred subject. Debates within committees are formal and are done in accordance with our rules of procedure. There is also the possibility to hold informal sessions in which alliances can be knit and in which workin papers and resolutions are written. The composition of future resolution is another important part in the making of a session. More information on resolution writing and the Rules of Procedure of IsarMUN 2009 will soon be available in detail.
